Digital Decade

The difference between creativity and cheating in digital art is a thin one—probably just one pixel wide. At their best, computer-assisted elements of design and shading create other-worldly effects that paints, sculptures and even glass refraction can’t replicate. Of course, at their worst, the effects are a blurry, synthetic cop-out for clumsy artists who hide behind a mouse. Luckily, Dallas artist Thomas Kincaid employs the best digital techniques in his artwork, as his mash-ups of geographic forms and color look both futuristic and cryptically ancient. His digitally manipulated art is celebrated at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary, 3120 McKinney Ave. in the Thomas Kincaid: Ten Years retrospective collection. Saturday's opening reception begins at 5:30 p.m., and normal gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free. Call 214-953-1212 or visit the-mac.org.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Sept. 9. Continues through Oct. 13
