Every time I eat a doughnut, I think of Brian Regan. The comedian, so adept at turning simple everyday tales into side-splitting anecdotes, tackled doughnut shops, doughnut ladies and related doughnut issues in an act that challenged my ability to control urination. He didn't address "holes" or "dough" or anything ripe for a double entendre—Regan's a clean comic, a refreshing contrast to the Dane Cooks and Lisa Lampanellis of the world. But make no mistake, a clean comic can still be funny. He discussed the assumption of the doughnut lady that customers have no ability to count (hence the condescending verbal tally they provide after each selection), that whoever invented the doughnut covered in chocolate but with sprinkles on one little section (the "Sprink Smidge for Lunatics") must have serious issues. Regan offers an act that's largely "That's so true!" but isn't hokey or intellectually insulting. Science fairs, broken bones, that lone dog barking in the middle of the night and the need for directions to cook a Pop-Tart. It's stuff everyone has experience with, Regan's just got a knack for pointing out how funny it all is. And he'll do it in person 7 p.m. Sunday at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St. Tickets are $38.50 to $48.50. Call 214-373-8000 or visit ticketmaster.com.
Sun., Sept. 10, 7 p.m.
