Wall to Wall

Take a stroll through the Dallas arts scene

In the world of art, the term DADA usually conjures up the 1920s anti-art images of Man Ray, Ernst and Duchamp. In Big D, however, it's the world of art history and media all flourishing under the umbrella of the Dallas Art Dealers Association. Every year DADA offers a feast of light, color and shape in its Fall Gallery Walk. From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 35 of its member galleries offer special events and installations. Thirteen galleries will host receptions with the artist and perhaps a work in progress; three galleries have scheduled live music. The collections cover every palette of taste and time, from ancient maps to contemporary sculpture, local multimedia artists to Asian tribal art. There are photographs, oil paintings and watercolors, as well as pieces done centuries ago by Brits or this year by faculty members at SMU or El Centro. The Conduit in the Dallas Design District offers wall drawings, while the Nasher downtown features larger-than-life sculptures. Wear comfortable shoes—the Walk will take you from Arlington through Irving to Uptown, Downtown, the Park Cities and Deep Ellum. All exhibitions are free (except the Nasher); times vary by gallery. For maps and event schedules of each member gallery, call 214-943-1099 or visit dallasartdealers.org.
