Real Funny

Laugh at masculinity

It seems the caveman/frat boy idea of manhood is more prevalent than ever. There's an oiled-up, bikini-clad starlet on the cover of every men's magazine, and beer commercials have gone from celebratory to just plain oppressive. Even certain bank commercials describe their checking as "maximum strength" while denouncing their competition as "namby-pamby." So Maxim magazine's "Real Men of Comedy Tour" comes as no surprise. Nor does its line-up, including Fear Factor host Joe Rogan. If by "real man" they mean one who will eat Sasquatch testicles dipped in unicorn blood on national television, thanks, but I’ll stick to sweater-wearing, obsessive-compulsive math nerds. (SW,OC MN please contact the author via calendar@dallasobserver.com.) Dallas-area comics compete for the chance to host the Maxim Real Men of Comedy Tour 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Addison Improv, 4980 Belt Line Road. Tickets are $10. Call 972-404-8501 or visit symfonee.com/Improv/addison.
Tue., Sept. 26, 8 p.m.
