Ready, Freddy!

Scoundrels put the cork on the fork

The trend on Broadway is taking great movies and making them into musicals. It worked great with The Producers, OK with The Full Monty. Now comes a play based on one of my favorite comedies, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. In the movie, the pleasure was in the duel between Michael Caine and Steve Martin, who battle to win control of a lucrative spot on the French Riviera with a bet: Which man can extract $50,000 from an heiress the fastest? Actor Tom Hewitt takes on the role of the suave con artist Lawrence Jameson; small-time crook Freddy Benson is played by Norbert Leo Butz, who won a 2005 Tony for best actor in a musical and by all accounts is sensational. Catch Scoundrels Tuesday through October 22 at the Music Hall at Fair Park. Tickets are $28.50 to $75.50. Call 214-631-2787.
Oct. 3-22
