Red Light Special

I'm a Yankee born in New Jersey, and perhaps the devil himself according to many of you, but even I can recognize the Dallas Stars have become an essential part of this town's legacy of sports, entertainment and violence. It is odd pulling for a hockey team this far south, though. Not so much a New Jersey Devils' advocate, I am definitely rooting for the Stars but perhaps more out of nostalgia for the Minnesota North Stars. I was a little disappointed when the North lost out on the Stars but have come to appreciate that hockey is here at all. Introduced to Dallas in 1941 in Fair Park as "the most dangerous game in the world...murder on ice," not much has changed except the fan base. Can it be bad that the team isn't originally from here when no one else is either? Cheer your face off at 7 p.m. Saturday at the American Airlines Center. Tickets range from $25 to $140 and can be purchased at the AAC box office and all Dr Pepper Stars Centers. Call 214-GO-STARS or visit dallasstars.com.
Sat., Oct. 7, 7 p.m.
