A lot of things come to mind when people think of the Manhattan Transfer. (I know because I'm psychic and I can read minds. Quit dwelling on that woman in the coffee shop this morning, Steve.) Some people think about trains, hopping from New York City borough to New York City borough. Criminal minds may think of making the big move from Rikers Island to a halfway house in Chinatown. Me? I think of 50 pre-pubescent girls in leotards dancing to a song about being soaking wet. The tune is "Trickle, Trickle," a Manhattan Transfer hit off 1979's Extensions. (The jazz/swing/bossanova/stuff-your-mom-likes vocal group has been recording songs for upward of 25 years now.) "Trickle, Trickle" was selected by my dance teacher for a large-scale production number our troupe would perform on and off for roughly 10 years at various dance competitions despite our pleas for relief. The Manhattan Transfer tortured my young mind, conjuring visions of wobbly, fishnet-clad thighs and out-of-synch tap-dancing. Way to ruin my childhood, Manhattan Transfer. I'll be shivering in the corner while the song stylists perform with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra at Bass Performance Hall, 4th and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth. Shows are at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $24 to $76. Call 817-665-6000.
Oct. 12-14, 8 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 15, 2 p.m.
