The Dobbs Defense

If the press announcement describes your upcoming book signing as an opportunity for you to "defend [your] position on issues," you probably need to hire somebody else to start writing your press announcements. I mean, it sounds like you're going in there looking for a fight. Like, there's not enough time to discuss or explain, much less debate, your position. Just defend the shit out of it. If you're Lou Dobbs, that may be a good idea. One would assume said opinions that need defending are alluded to in Dobbs' book, War on the Middle Class. Now that's not such a radical concept. The middle class is definitely not as well off as they were maybe 30 years ago. Dobbs is also opposed to outsourcing jobs overseas on the cheap. Anyone who's had to deal with call-center customer service can get down with Dobbs on that. He's a proud, lifelong Republican who's openly critical of the Bush administration's economic and foreign policies. You might have caught crap for that a couple years ago, but that's not so heavy anymore. Where are all these outrageous opinions he has to "defend"? Oh, wait. Here it is. I guess Dobbs is pretty well known for his staunch views on immigration, often referring to an "invasion" of illegal aliens. Well, we hope he enjoys his stay here in Dallas, Texas, with our luxurious hotel room service, restaurant kitchen staffs and hard-working construction and landscaping crews. Lou Dobbs appears at the Addison Conference and Theatre Centre, 15650 Addison Road, 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 to $20. Reservations are required. A book signing follows. Call 214-965-8400.
Sun., Oct. 15, 6 p.m.
