Wonder Stuff

Cohen opens a treasure tove

Jason Cohen has spent decades bringing counterculture to Dallas. The founder of Forbidden Books and Video and the subsequent Forbidden Gallery has been this city's No. 1 collector/peddler of all things subversive, outsider, avant-garde or forgotten. From perverted plush to performance art, Cohen has twirled his sinister fingers in all of the fine, silky hairs of art's bushy black mustache. His latest venture (along with antique dealer and mom Terry Cohen), Curiosities, serves as an express route to that one-in-a-million flea-market find you've been looking for. The Lakewood shop also includes a gallery dedicated to vintage folk art, found art and photography. It's like Crispin Glover's wet dream, only smarter. Curiosities at 2025 Abrams Road opens October 10 and hosts a grand opening celebration from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. New folk art by Carl Block is on display. Call 214-828-1886.
Sat., Oct. 14, 6-10 p.m.
