The Texas Ballet Theater goes back in time in this month's sumptuous presentation of The Sleeping Beauty. Premiered in 1890, the classic ballet was created by Russian choreographer Marius Petipa, who worked closely with composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Choreographer Ben Stevenson kept much of Petipa's original work in his 1967 staging of The Sleeping Beauty (with the legendary Margot Fonteyn in the role of Aurora). Now the Texas Ballet Theater melds Stevenson's choreography with lavish sets and opulent costumes created by Tony Award winner Desmond Heeley in the style of Louis XIV. Think rich brocades, lavish trims and tall wigs. Performed with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, it promises to be a three-act presentation of the ultimate fairy tale. Catch it 8 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Bass Performance Hall, 4th and Calhoun Streets in Fort Worth. Call 817-212-4280.
Fri., Oct. 20, 8 p.m.; Sat., Oct. 21, 2 & 8 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 22, 2 p.m.
