Come and Get It!

ONSTAGE won't wear out its welcome

Few things make life more miserable than having to deal with a guest who has overstayed his welcome. (I'm lookin' at you, Grandpa. Quit milkin' that artificial hip and get back to the lonely days of staring at SpeedVision and the gardening channel, will you? I need my room back.) And when they're not a blood relative? Pure torture. That's what happened to the fictional Stanley family, the wholesome Midwestern clan from the classic play The Man Who Came to Dinner. The Stanleys were nice enough to host self-important radio personality Sheridan Whiteside for, ahem, dinner one frosty evening when the uncoordinated jerk slipped on some ice on their doorstep. Forced into a six-week homestay at the instruction of a bumpkin country doctor, Whiteside wreaks havoc upon the Stanley home with his insatiable demands. Tomfoolery and high jinks ensue, because that's all that ever happened in the 1930s, the decade in which this story takes place. The play is revived through November 4 by ONSTAGE in Bedford. Performances are 8 p.m. Fridays and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturdays at the Trinity Arts Theatre at the Bedford Boys Ranch, at the corner of Harwood and Forest Ridge in Bedford. Tickets are $10 to $12. Visit onstageinbedford.org.
Saturdays, 2 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Oct. 28. Continues through Nov. 4
