Get Lost

A reason to like Ron Perlman

You can say what you want about the French, but one thing is for sure: They can make the hell out of a movie. Almost every modern trend in film has its roots in the groundbreaking French cinema of the '50s and '60s. Landmark's Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane, continues its eclectic series of midnight cult films this weekend with a modern French classic. The City of Lost Children spewed forth from the warped minds that brought you the amazing Delicatessen, and it's even more conceptually bizarre and visually stunning than its predecessor. While the ensemble cast that graced the previous production definitely holds its own, the big surprise here is Ron Perlman (Beast from TV's Beauty and the Beast). His performance as a former whale hunter searching for his kidnapped little brother lends genuine pathos to this surreal feast for the eyes. Beneath all the visual trickery and cinematic artistry lies an emotional tale of innocence lost; it's definitely worth the late-night trip to the edge of Highland Park. The City of Lost Children shows Friday and Saturday night at the Inwood Theatre. Tickets are $8. Call 214-764-9106.
Sat., Oct. 28, midnight; Sun., Oct. 29, midnight
