Under the Big Top

Last year I attended the Shrine Circus for the first time, borrowing my favorite 4-year-old for an afternoon of elephants, clowns and old men in funny hats. It was a lot like one of those Mastercard commercials: One stick of cotton candy: $6. Another stick of cotton candy to replace the one the 4-year-old dropped and make her stop crying: $6. One giant, glowing, princess-worthy light wand, to be broken later that evening: $12. The look on the 4-year-old's face when she sees an elephant take a dump for the first time: priceless. There are some things money can't buy. Unfortunately a child's happiness isn't one of them, so open up your wallets and head to the Will Rogers Coliseum, 1 Amon Carter Square in Fort Worth, for the 64th Annual Shrine Circus. The circus starts Friday and runs daily through Saturday, November 18. Admission is $12 to $17. For tickets and showtimes, visit ticketmaster.com.
