The Irish Tenors head west

The melancholy central to the tradition of Irish music comes through high and clear when the Irish Tenors take the stage. These talented singers are anything but old-fashioned, however. Since first teaming up in 1998, the Irish Tenors' performances on PBS and onstage have featured everything from favorites such as "Danny Boy" to modern songs such as Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On." Perhaps the most poignant are those dealing with the Irish diaspora, such as "A Song for Ireland." Since the first of their five appearances on PBS, American music lovers have responded. The Tenors' seven CDs have all been best-sellers, and a PBS documentary following the tenors around the Old Country is in the works. For this holiday season, founding member Anthony Kearns will perform with Finbar Wright and the Tenors' newest member, Karl Scully, with an emphasis on Christmas and spiritual songs. Their appearance at Bass Hall singing coincides with the November release of their two-CD set The Irish Tenors: The Essential Collection. Tickets are $45 to $100. Catch the Tenors 7:30 pm Wednesday at Bass Performance Hall, Fourth and Calhoun Streets in Fort Worth. Call 877-212-4280.
Wed., Dec. 6, 7:30 p.m.
