The Prince of Tideland

Is it the best of the worst?

When you leave the theater after seeing a good movie, you might say, "Wow! That was great." When you leave the theater after a bad movie, you probably say something like, "There's no way those traveling pants fit all of those girls," or "I just think Vin Diesel brought more life to the role than Ice Cube." When you leave the theater after a movie that was so bad that it became good, you yell, "I'm not a stripper—I'm a dancer!" But, after a Terry Gilliam movie, there's no telling what you might say. It might be Fear and Loathing good, or it could be The Brothers Grimm bad. After the critics saw his latest film, Tideland, they said, "Rarely has an act of such cinematic cruelty as Tideland been perpetrated on filmgoers," and "Immediately shoots to the top of the list of the year's worst movies." If hearing that the critics hate it makes you think you’ll probably love it, go see Tideland Friday through Sunday at The Modern Museum of Art, 3200 Darnell St. in Fort Worth. Tickets are $7.50, $5.50 for members. Call 817-738-9215 or visit themodern.org.
Fri., Dec. 15, 6 & 8 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 16, 5 p.m.; Sun., Dec. 17, 2 & 4 p.m.
