Local rock legends reunite

If you have any idea what the Ticket's Mike Rhyner is talking about when he waxes nostalgic about Dallas bands of the '60s and '70s, then you're probably close to qualifying for a senior discount at IHOP. However, you probably also saw some great music in your day, frequenting long-forgotten venues such as Mother Blues and the Pit Club while checking out great acts such as the Five Americans, the Nightcaps and Kenny and the Kasuals. This Saturday, all your favorites take the stage at Poor David's Pub, 1313 S. Lamar St., for a '60s Rock and Roll Reunion, Big D style. Participants include the Exels, the Devilles, the Nightcaps, Kenny and the Kasuals, Nitzinger, the Novas and the Dead Pyrates Society. Also, like most rock and roll reunions, the night ends with a free-for-all "Open Jam," meaning you're in for the type of fun only found when drunken 60-year-old men try to remember songs they haven't played in 30 or 40 years. There's no episode of Desperate Housewives on and your kids may very well have kids of their own by now, so you have no excuse—it's time to rock, old-timers. The funs starts Saturday at 5 p.m. Tickets are $5. Call 214-565-1295 or visit poordavidspub.com.
Sat., Dec. 30, 5 p.m.-2 a.m.
