As a young acolyte of Beavis and Butt-head and Wayne's World in the mid '90s, I often found myself renting Dazed and Confused for its similar mix of badass jams and lowbrow humor. But when Richard Linklater's masterpiece was already checked out, there was always The Stoned Age, the story of two Blue Oyster Cult-lovin' Neanderthals on a 24-hour quest for cheap thrills and poon tang. The poster featured a quote from Kim Williamson of Venice Magazine, who apparently said it was "better than Dazed and Confused," which is not true. It was amusing, however, especially when Neanderthal No. 2, aka Joe, told the story of his psychedelic encounter with a blue laser at a BOC show. You see, before Reagan fooled the Soviets with Star Wars, lasers were used for much more righteous purposes, like entertaining teenagers freaked out on acid at a rock show they'd probably saved up for all summer while working at car washes, department stores and Dairy Queen. American as apple pie, as they say. You, too, can enjoy this time-honored American tradition when the Pink Floyd Laser Spectacular kicks off 8 p.m. Friday at the Nokia Theatre at Grand Prairie, 1001 Performance Place.
