Christian pop gets skewered by Boyz

Librettists must have been slapping their foreheads and muttering "Why didn't I think of that?" when Altar Boyz debuted off-Broadway. Take the boy-band phenomenon and the Christian pop movement, mash it around with double-entendres and create a musical comedy! Five young men—Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham (the Jewish guy, of course)—meet and become stars. On the last gig of their "Raise the Praise" tour, the Altar Boyz set out to cleanse their fans' souls with the help of the Soul Sensor DX-12 and techniques that include "Confession Sessions." The surprise is that the award-winning show is family-friendly, foot-tapping and irresistible, according to even hardened New York critics. Altar Boyz opens Tuesday, with eight performances through January 21 at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St. Tickets are $15 to $60. Call 214-421-5678 or visit ticketmaster.com.
Jan. 16-21, 8 p.m.; Jan. 20-21, 2 p.m.
