Me llamo Carlos Hestón

Touch of Evil plays at the Inwood

Who could possibly be less Mexican than Charlton Heston? William Shatner ("Spock—pass me—those—churros.")? Heidi Klum ("¡Nina Garcia!")? How did Heston ever get cast as a Mexican official? Maybe Orson Welles was impressed by his chipotle-mayo gordita portrayal of Ben Hur. Or, perhaps he was taken aback by his extra hot and jalapeño-y Moses. I suppose it could be worse—like the time they let Renee Zellweger play a non-crack whore. Or, when they let Andie MacDowell call herself an actress. Orson Welles' Touch of Evil is a classic (that means black and white) film noir that follows a Mexican government investigator (Heston) and his young American wife (Janet Leigh) as their honeymoon gets put on hold and they become entangled in a crime investigation. But, more important than that, Marlene Deitrich and Zsa Zsa Gabor are in it. Watch for the movie's famous three-minute continuous opening tracking shot, and count the 2,000 cigarettes and cigars that are smoked during the movie's 95-minute running time. Touch of Evil will play at the Inwood Theatre (5458 W. Lovers Lane) this Friday and Saturday night at midnight. Tickets are $8. Call 214-764-9106 or visit landmarktheatres.com.
Fri., Jan. 19; Sat., Jan. 20
