Super Sized

People love big stuff. It's true. It doesn't matter how unexciting a normal-sized item is; when it's presented as a giant replica, it's awesome. Take, for instance, Big Tex: If he weren't nine times the size of most men we know, the state icon would be just another slow-talkin' cowpoke with a predilection for Dickies. And what's more amazing than an entire enormous man, you ask? Well, a lone humongous human nose, of course. Amplify the size of our nasal passages, add a few jumbo dust particles, and you've got an afternoon of fun for the whole family. My Home Planet Earth, an interactive, bilingual exhibit, opens at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History on Saturday. Its hands-on activities teach kids the connections between the environment and their health, with the help of cartoon squirrel cousins, black light technology, a real mold colony and, yes, a massive nasal passage. Young visitors will even find out what happens to food that's kept in the fridge for too long (which they will later experience firsthand if they ever attempt to dine in a frat house).
