B.B. King

Tuesday, January 30, at Bass Hall, Fort Worth

Back when B.B. King first began banging his guitar in front of a Memphis microphone, he was doing it alongside the likes of Howlin' Wolf, Little Junior Parker, Rosco Gordon and...you know what, baby? Those cats are all, like, long gone, and the mighty Mr. King (alongside the unstoppable Bobby "Blue" Bland and the infuriatingly MIA Ike Turner) is one of the final surviving Beale Street badasses, an artist whose blood runs thick with the mystic stuff that makes the blues. That substance is an almost supernatural force, a music with power and reach quite unlike anything else you'll ever hear buzzing a speaker cone these days, and you can be damn sure he's going to turn 'em on with all his sweet, thundering zealotry and insight intact. Don't screw up: Make the show.
