Papa Was A Rodeo

The Fort Worth Stock Show Winds Down

If you haven't been to the rodeo, you haven't lived. There's just something about the combined smells of horse crap, hay and chili dogs that'll change a person's life altogether. Plus, the barrel racing is rad, the bull riding is zero to eight seconds of awesome, and the cotton candy can't be beat. From 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. this Friday, ditch your plan to spend the night at Ghostbar chugging Cristal, and instead, make the drive out to the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo at 3400 Burnett Tandy Drive (clearly, in Fort Worth) and prepare to have your city-mind blown. Before you get your horse-riding-calf-chasing-World's-Original-Rodeo madness, they'll have a livestock judging contest, a barrow show (that's a pig show, y'all), a steer show, a rabbit show and a pen full of heifers. A $20 ticket gets you into the rodeo, access to all the livestock events, every exhibit and the carnival and midway. If you're not into the rodeo, I feel bad for you and you're crazy, but you can pay general admission ($8 for Adults, $4 for kids 6 to 16, and kids 5 and under are free) and get all the petting zoos and livestock judging your rodeo-hating heart desires. Hurry, though, because it all magically disappears after Sunday. Call 817-877-2420 or visit fwssr.com.
