I was raised in a blue state where the most popular sports are skiing and soccer, and we mocked people who meant "choppers" when they said "bikes" and lived for Monster Trucks and Nascar. But a couple years ago, I was at the IMAX theater in downtown San Francisco and the only thing playing was a Nascar documentary. So I watched it. Little did I know, the experience entailed donning those three-dimensional goggles and getting a mind-numbing, stomach churning virtual ride in the race car. The cars were flashy, the pit crews were paragons of lightning-quick teamwork, and the drivers were cute in spite of their All-American, corn-fed simplicity. I was converted. I had a new respect for the throngs of people who camp out in RVs at the tracks, many of them no doubt also fans of Grave Digger. The much-loved, skull-adorned green truck will be on hand this Friday and Saturday at the Monster Jam at Reunion Arena. The fun starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; gates open an hour beforehand. Tickets are $18 to $20, $5 for kids. Call 214-373-8000 or visit ticketmaster.com.
