There's plenty that's eye-catching about the acrobatic dance troupe Pilobolus, but the first thing to catch my eye was that funky name. It sounds suspiciously unsanitary, and sure enough, pilobolus is a type of icky fungi that thrives on herbivore dung. Now why, you ask, would a bunch of talented people want to name their dance company after an excrement-dwelling life form? Well, it could be because the fungus has the unbelievable ability to launch itself across distances of up to 6 feet. And as far as gravity-defying performances go, this dance ensemble lives up to its name. The unique Pilobolus style (which you may have seen in a recent Hyundai commercial) will be showcased at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth at 8 p.m. Monday. Tickets are $35 to $57.50. Call 1-877-212-4280 or visit basshall.com.
Mon., Feb. 5, 8 p.m.
