Fade to Black

The Inwood shows a Creature feature

I'll admit that with the passage of time often comes ingenuity and progress. I really like having power steering in my car, and microwaves certainly come in handy sometimes. But when it comes to horror films made in the 1950s, I say there's little room for improvement. Sure, the special effects might not be next-gen, the dialogue is outdated and the action moves pretty slowly, but they're classics. I mean, Creature From the Black Lagoon was originally filmed and released in 3-D, and come on, were you handed a pair of stylin' red and blue glasses when you went to see Saw II? I don't think so. Sadly, from what I hear, Universal Pictures is working on a Creature remake, set to open sometime next year. So go see the original while it's still the only one out there because, well, they just don't make 'em like they used to. The original 3-D Creature From the Black Lagoon will be shown midnight Friday and Saturday at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane. Call 214-764-9106 or visit landmarktheatres.com.
Feb. 10, midnight
