Man From Hope

Clinton comes calling at Nokia

Maybe the wife and I are just devoted Democrats. Maybe we just needed an excuse to get out of town. Whatever the case, we took a pilgrimage to Little Rock last year to visit the William J. Clinton Presidential Center. It's a lovely, glassy place overlooking the Arkansas River. It has a cool re-creation of the Oval Office, interesting interactive displays about Clinton's accomplishments and lots of old people and kids taking tours. Some of Hillary's dresses on display, but no stained blue numbers. (I had to mention that. It's, like, a law or something.) But the thing I remember most is this: Man, the café serves a lousy hamburger. I mean, geez, we're talking Bill Clinton here. You'd think if any ex-leader of the free world would demand that his shrine serve up a decent patty of ground beef, it'd be Clinton, but nooooo. Guy gets a heart problem, and the fatty foods go to shit. Anyway, I recommend the tour—Little Rock is a pleasant burg. Or, if you don't want to drive that far, you can hear the man himself speak 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Nokia Theater, 1001 Performance Place in Grand Prairie. Dunno about what he's going to talk about, since his press people wouldn't return messages—HIV/AIDS, overweight kids, East-West relations?—but we suggest this: Eat before you go. Thu., Feb. 8, 7:30 p.m.
