Fully Animated

Mike Judge amps up the 'toons

Mike Judge is a freakin' genius; that goes without saying. Everything he does is brilliant and adored by millions. OK, so Idiocracy wasn't exactly a box office smash, but neither was Office Space when it was first released. Mark my words, once we get over this global warming scare and go back to worrying about the dilution of the gene pool, Idiocracy will make Nostradamus look like Sylvia Browne on ecstasy. Well, maybe not, but it's sure to become a midnight movie favorite. Judge curates "The Animation Show," a semi-annual North American touring festival that brings indie animated short films to more theaters than any distributor in history. Now into its third season, the festival is co-curated by the reclusive animator Don Hertzfeldt, recent winner of a Sundance Jury Award for Short Filmmaking for his film Everything Will Be OK. This film will be shown during the festival, along with new work by animators Joanna Quinn, Mike Judge and Bill Plympton. "The Animation Show" can be seen on the big screen when it comes to the historic Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Parkway, at 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $11. Call 214-821-SHOW or visit lakewoodtheater.com.
Fri., March 2, 6:30 & 9 p.m.
