It's Cookie Time!

I wasn't alive in the 1800s, but I've seen re-enactments on PBS where people dress funny and aren't allowed Internet access, and it doesn't look like fun to me. And yet, the folks at Dallas Heritage Village found a way to make kids love that magical time before videogames. How, you ask? With one delicious word: cookies. The living history museum, which depicts North Texas life from 1840 to 1910, is offering kids (ages 5 to 9) a class in making good old-fashioned cookies. In my day, we used the Easy-Bake Oven, but kids in the "Cookie Connection" class will bake on a cast iron stove, with help from a costumed instructor. The class costs $17 and can be taken from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday or March 18. Register by calling 214-413-3671 or visit dallasheritagevillage.org.
