Juke in a Box

Quad C has all the sweet jams

American Idol, it seems, has opened its mammoth, dried-saliva-encrusted jaws and finally swallowed the last bit of our national culture that had heretofore escaped its cruel mastications. The theatah, people, is sliding down the gullet, Jabba the Hutt-style, of the gorging, TiVo-ed beast. Hmm...perhaps that's overstating it; but there's no doubt that Big D's own Quad C Theatre has been touched by the audience-participation angel. Leastways, that's what the Theatre's latest offering, Don't Rock the Jukebox, indicates. DRTJ is basically a live jukebox, wherein audience members vote on what songs—from a selection of pop, gospel, country and more—they want to hear and who they want to sing them. The brainchild of Brad Baker and Mark Mullino (the fellas behind other Quad C hits such as Assassins, Bat Boy and The Rocky Horror (Puppet) Show!, the nouveau revue promises, according to press materials, to be "Karaoke gone nuts!" And, there’s no Simon "Jump the Shark" Cowell to contend with(!) in the John Anthony Theatre at Collin College, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Don't Rock the Jukebox cranks out the hits 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, as well as March 7 through March 10, and 2:15 p.m. March 4, 10 and 11. Tickets are $10 to $15. Call 972-881-5100 or visit quadctheatre.org.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2:15 p.m.; Sat., March 10, 2:15 p.m. Starts: March 1. Continues through March 11
