During my days as an '80s DJ, the one rule I had was that everything I played had to have been released in the '80s. Sounds like a no-brainer, but it's amazing how many '80s songs were actually released in the late '70s. I didn't play Gary Numan's "Cars"—that was released in 1979. Similarly, I didn't play anything from the first two albums released by The Cars, as they were released in '78 and '79. So there was no "Just What I Needed," but there was "Heartbeat City" and "Drive"—not quite the same thing, I know. Another band that was heavily requested was Foreigner. Unfortunately, some of their biggest hits were also released in the '70s. This includes the songs "Hot Blooded" and "Cold As Ice," probably their most famous hits. Their most requested song (during my night anyway), "Juke Box Hero," fit my criteria and was played often. Foreigner's biggest hit to date, "I Want to Know What Love Is," was released in 1984 but I never played it. Just because it's '80s doesn't mean it's good. Foreigner plays 11 p.m. Friday at Lone Star Park, 1000 Lone Star Parkway in Grand Prairie, to celebrate the park’s opening weekend.
