Life and Limb

Second Thought Theatre is back with a vengeance with this taut little one-act comedy by Canadian writer Morris Panych. The title characters, the only two in the play, are new friends. Lawrence (Ian Leson) is on the career track, or so it seems, at the department store where they both work. He's handsome, ambitious and lucky in all things. Or so it seems. Holloman (Chad Gowan Spear) is just the opposite, a quivering wimp in a bad suit who follows Lawrence around like a wounded pup. Then bad things start happening to Lawrence. He loses job, fiancée, car, eyesight and a limb. Still, he's loving life and thinking it's all going his way. If only Holloman would stop being so negative, good stuff would happen to him, too. The ending is a shocker—better even than Waiting for Godot, which this 75-minute comedy closely resembles. With terrific performances by both actors—particularly Leson, spitting out lines with machine-gun speed—and deft direction by Marianne Galloway, this production puts Second Thought back on the must-see list. Through April 22 at Second Thought Theatre, Addison Theatre Centre, 15650 Addison Rd., Addison. 972-450-6232.
Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: April 5. Continues through April 22
