Celebrate Earth Day at the Heard

In a geographic area infamous for its preponderance of big ol' SUVs, 40-mile-plus commutes and, well, new stuff, the folks at the city of McKinney and the Heard Natural Museum will try to invoke a little Al Gore sensibility during the Green Living Family Festival. This Earth Day celebration encourages North Texans to leave the Hummer in the garage and get environmental by practicing a little recycling, re-using, reducing and responsible living. Throughout the festival, exhibitors will be on hand to educate the masses about green living products and ideas; Cartridge World will accept used printer cartridges (a landfill no-no), Goodwill will take your used items, and on Saturday, Carter BloodCare will provide the ultimate in recycling services. Kids can enjoy Gore-approved presentations about renewable energy and conservation, as well as hands-on activities. The Green Living Family Festival takes place from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary, 1 Nature Place in McKinney. Normal admission prices apply; call 972-562-5566.
Sat., April 21, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun., April 22, 1-5 p.m.
