See Ice Cube's dad in Addison

Dr. John Witherspoon was born in Gifford, Scotland, in 1723. A scholarly Presbyterian minister who was elected to the Continental Congress, he is perhaps best known for his hilarious portrayal of Ice Cube's dad in the Friday movies. Defying all known medical science, Witherspoon lived for more than 250 years, transformed into a black dude, became a mildly successful stand-up comedian in the 1980s and blossomed into a wildly popular comedic character actor in the '90s. To this day, Witherspoon is the lone beacon of funny in otherwise ass-awful movies (Soul Plane, Little Nicky). He also signed the Declaration of Independence. John Witherspoon starts yelping "Bang!" at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, 8:30 p.m and 10:30 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m., 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Addison Improv, 4980 Belt Line Road. Admission is $25. For tickets and info call 972-404-8501 or visit improv.com.
