Small Hands

Spot a Carny at Webb Gallery

One time, I pissed off a carny. He ran this ride called The Paratroopers with these swings that just went round and round and swooped up and down for what seemed like forever. I thought it would be cool. My motion sickness did not think it was cool. And then I jettisoned my chunky cargo in front of little kids (ya know, called out the vomit genie, threw it in reverse, pretended like I was the Famous Nicole Richie after any meal ever, kicked the contents of my stomach to the curb, etc.). They cried. Carny scowled. I still remember it every time I see a Tilt-A-Whirl or a fat lady in a tube top. From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday night, drive to Waxahachie for the opening party of Carny, an art exhibit at Webb Gallery, 209 W. Franklin Ave. See freak photos and art by Tim Kerr, Ren Smith, Bob Tooke and Silke Thoss. Plus, the Watzloves will perform live. I hope they perform "What's Love Got to Do, Got to Do With It?," Tina Turner-style a million times in a row. But I hope a lot of things. The event's free—unless you're an easy mark for carniferous art. The show continues 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. weekends through July 15. Call 972-938-8085 or visit webbartgallery.com.
Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: April 28. Continues through July 15
