Comic Genius

Don't forget your CAPE at Zeus

I would pay a pretty fair amount of money to see Mayor Laura Miller deliver the proclamation establishing Saturday as "Free Comic Book Day" in Dallas while wearing a Wonder Woman costume. Sadly, I don't think that will happen, but regardless, Zeus Toys and Comics' CAPE 3: Bride of CAPE promises to be more fun than you ever thought you'd have at a comic book store. In its third incarnation, CAPE (which stands for Comic and Pop Culture Expo) features a superhero/anime costume contest, 5,000 free comics and zillions of comic books on sale for a quarter. Those attending CAPE will also have the opportunity to meet some of their favorite comic book writers and artists, including Spider-Man writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, PVP creator Scott Kurtz and Manhunter writer Marc Andreyko. Ladies, while your man spends a few hours digging through the quarter comics, talk with new Wonder Woman author and feminist Gail Simone about her views on women and comic books and spend some quality time flirting with the very cute (and single) Kristian Donaldson, the co-creator and artist behind last year's genius series Supermarket. CAPE runs from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday at Zeus Toys and Comics, 3878 Oak Lawn Ave. Call 214-219-TOYS for more details, or visit capeday.com.
Sat., May 5, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
