Not Pop, But Pong Art

Usually, when error messages or pop-ups have a field day with my computer, I freak out. But while visiting one of the many Web sites for JODI, a collective of two new media artists, I learned that sometimes the sight of 1,000 pop-ups dancing across your screen is considered...art. The Netherlands-based JODI consists of Joan Heemskerk and Dirk Paesmans, who began producing deconstructive Net art together in the mid-1990s. Nowadays, JODI produces works of videogame modification, some of which will be on display, along with works by artist Arcangel Constantini, at the And/Or Gallery, 4221 Bryan St., in Show #9: JODI + Arcangel Constantini, Friday through June 8. And if you're feeling particularly adventurous, go to JODI's Wikipedia page and click on some of the links at the bottom. If you've got a single geeky bone in your body, you'll be fascinated. For gallery hours and more information, visit andorgallery.com.
Fri., May 4; Saturdays, 12-6 p.m.; Wednesdays, 5-8 p.m. Starts: May 4. Continues through June 8
