Whether reading Wine for Dummies or surfing tasting-wine.com, I still can't distinguish mahogany from purple or master the swish and smell. Does it have to be this hard? Can't I just take a swig and either grimace or grin as a result? I'm this close to being done with my attempts at stepping up my culinary game and sticking to $10 and less bottles from Kroger. That is, if I can resist the massive wine selection at Whole Foods on Lemmon Avenue. Just when I think that I am out, they pull me back in. I'll try my luck with several samples from the Coppola Winery at the Warwick Melrose Hotel's wine-tasting event this Thursday. Located in the Library Bar, 3015 Oak Lawn Ave., tasting and hors d'oeuvres will begin at 6:30 p.m. Complimentary valet is available. Call 214-521-5151 for further details.
