Arrested Development is the sitcom most people point to when trying to name the one outstanding live-action comedy that Fox has aired, but you have to also give props to Christopher Titus' self-titled show, which ran from 2000 until 2002. You wouldn't think that a show about a man wrestling with his childhood demons (an alcoholic, abusive dad and a schizophrenic mom) would be remotely funny, but Titus was indeed a laugh-out-loud, heart-wrenching affair that had me glued to the tube whenever the whims of the network deemed to air it. The show, now on DVD, was based on Titus' stand-up act, Norman Rockwell Is Bleeding, a riotous and witty monologue detailing a fairly horrifying childhood. Titus is famous for connecting with his audience in a way few comedians can, perhaps because he is able to look at the dysfunctions of his life and relate them with such humor. Or maybe it's because listening to Titus is flat-out therapeutic for many folks. Whether you're looking for laughter or therapy, you shouldn't miss Christopher Titus' act at the Addison Improv, 4980 Belt Line Road, starting tonight at 8:30 and continuing through Sunday. Tickets start at $20. Reservations are available by calling 972-404-8501 or visiting improvclubs.com.
Thu., May 24, 8:30 p.m.; Fri., May 25, 8:30 & 10:30 p.m.; Sat., May 26, 7 & 9 p.m.; Sun., May 27, 7:30 p.m.
