Dust in the Wind

Just in case you haven't read John Steinbeck or listened to Woody Guthrie lately, here's a news flash: living in the Dust Bowl sucked. How else could you explain thousands of Texans wanting to move to California? Playwright Allison Moore, a Texas expat living in Minneapolis, has brought the story of one Dust Bowl resident—Janie, a "fierce farm wife"—to the stage in End Times, so named because many Okies thought the sky-blackening dust storms signaled the impending end of the world. Considering a person caught naked in one of the black clouds could have been stripped of most of their skin within a few minutes (!), this is somewhat understandable. See End Times at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through June 30. And a word to the wise: The show contains some cigarette smoking, as if the Dust Bowl didn't do enough lung damage already.
