Atari warps into the Meyerson

Imagine asking your cardigan-wearing, golf-playing grandfather if he wants a gin and tonic. "Fo' shizzle, mah nizzle," he replies. Gack. That was our reaction when we saw the Dallas Symphony Orchestra is presenting Video Games Live on Wednesday and Thursday. Who is this blend of costumes, game competitions and live action set to music from videogames intended for? Game players generally turn the music off when they play, and it's doubtful that regular orchestra-goers want to hear the soundtrack from Donkey Kong. We could be wrong about that. Says here that 11,000 people attended the concert series debut at the Hollywood Bowl in 2005. Tickets are $35 to $75; pre-concert activities, including game competitions and chats with game designers, begin at 6:30 p.m., with the concert at 8 p.m. at the Eugene McDermott Concert Hall of the Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. Call 214-692-0203 or visit DallasSymphony.com.
Thu., June 21, 6:30 p.m.
