Compared to other arts, video art is relatively new and is still an open field without a set definition. Defined or not, the Dallas Video Festival has been on top of this medium for 20 years. In recognition of this, and also as a run-up to the 20th anniversary of the festival, the Video Association of Dallas is presenting a series featuring the "greatest hits" culled from its archives. The Conduit Gallery will host showings of these works in a five-part program collectively called I Heart Video Art. The series serves as sort of an educational retrospective of the art form, and works will run the gamut from pieces with story lines to styles more abstract or "painterly." Showings will not be chronological, so on any given night you get roughly an hour-and-a-half mix of different styles from such featured artists as Sadie Benning, the Art Guys, William Wegman, Peter Greenaway, Guys Richard Smit and Martha Rosler, who contributes the series' oldest piece, produced in ye olde days of 1975. Get down in front when showings run 7:30 p.m. Fridays through July 27. For screening details, visit conduitgallery.com.
