Beard Sweat

ZZ Top and friends rock Smirnoff

We wouldn't have believed it three months ago, but 92.5 KZPS's recent format change has actually turned us back into occasional FM radio listeners. Save for the overabundance of Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Thorogood and Steve Miller on the station's playlists—seriously, if we hear "Pride and Joy," "Bad to the Bone," or "Fly Like An Eagle" one more time, we're gonna impale ourselves on our radio antenna and mail our ears to Redbeard—its refreshing mix of classic rock (Tom Petty, CCR, Bruce Springsteen), outlaw country (Waylon and Willie and the Boys) and alternative twang (Uncle Tupelo, Slobberbone) is the best thing to happen to Dallas radio in many, many moons. This Sunday the newly crowned Lone Star 92.5 will celebrate its rebirth with the Lone Star 92.5 Fandango, featuring local roots rock heroes the Drams and Old 97s, as well as Shooter Jennings, David Allen Coe, alternative country pioneers the Bottle Rockets and Athens, Georgia's Drive-By Truckers, all topped off by a performance by those bearded ambassadors of blues rock badassness, ZZ Top. (The concert is named after the album that brought the world "Tush," after all.) It all kicks off 1 p.m. Sunday—so don't forget your sunscreen and your "Cheap Sunglasses"—at Smirnoff Music Centre, 1818 First Ave. in Fair Park. Tickets are $25 to $75. Visit ticketmaster.com.
Sun., July 15, 1 p.m.
