The King and Queen of Nashvegas

McGraw and Hill make out onstage

Tim McGraw and his CMA-sore-loser wife bring their bullshit mainstream country treacle back to Dallas for the second installment of their Soul2Soul tour. Faith Hill's music is so unremarkable that I can't remember what any of her songs sound like. I recall that her desperation for success led her to abandon her country roots to take a stab at being a slick, shiny, sexy pop diva, but she's supposedly returning to her aw-shucks roots. McGraw is the real problem here. His "Indian Outlaw" is the most patronizing song written about Native Americans since Cher's "Half Breed," and "I Like It, I Love It" is so idiotic that my family is considering a move to Oak Cliff just so my kids won't be exposed to it anymore during their vulnerable years through school friends whose parents' tastes lean toward Nashville pabulum. No doubt people considering this torture would describe themselves as country fans. To them, I'd recommend Eleven Hundred Springs at Adair's, Current Leaves at Secret Headquarters in Denton, C.C. Cross at the Absinthe Lounge or plucking nostril hairs instead. Soul2Soul is at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the American Airlines Center. Tickets are $45 to $95 plus outlandish service charges; call 214-373-8000 or visit ticketmaster.com.
Sun., July 29, 7:30 p.m.
