Yeah, yeah. Let's skip all the usual Wizard of Oz blather--how the flying monkeys scared you as a kid, whether a munchkin actually died on the set, whether the original book was really a Populist allegory. Whatever. The movie's been around forever. You've seen it before; you might see it again. So what can anyone do to breathe new life into Friday and Saturday's midnight showing of the Judy Garland classic at the Inwood Theatre at Lovers and Inwood? We're thinking acid. Or mushrooms if you prefer. Peyote maybe. Salvia divinorum if you're not into going to jail. In short, we think that hallucinogens add to your Wizard experience, especially the shifts from black and white to color, the Emerald City, the witch's stockinged feet curling up under Dorothy’s house, etc. Not that we're actually suggesting illicit recreational drug use at an event cosponsored by the Dallas Observer. That would be wrong and irresponsible—but, man, you might want to head to the bathroom when the monkeys start flying. Those evil bastards can really spoil a trip. Wizard of Oz also screens 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, though if you're into distorted reality that early on a Sunday morning, we suggest you go to church instead.
