No DOMA Drama

Well, at least your Observer music writers support you and don't make fun of the DOMA ballot on former DO music editors' blogs. Well, not all of them:

-People finally realized Earl Harvin doesn't live here any more.
-The "best blues" nominees haven't changed for 10 years. Nice to have consistency.
-Rap-rock is back! It's like we're huffing engine cleaner in the mid-90s all over again. One Up made it on the rap ballot.
-Vanilla Ice: NOT ON THE LIST
-Strangleweed: NOT ON THE LIST
-Pops Carter wasn't nominated for Best New Act.
-If anyone cares about the awards, they're not admitting it. That'll leave plenty of wings and rum for the 15 people who show up.
-Sam will wear his Hooters girl outfit again. I just KNOW it."

First of all, thank you for your DOMA each year. Dallas is lucky to have this each year. I wanted to comment on an area to which I have commented and have spoken with DO staff members before to correct. In the Latino music category, with so many genres of music being produced, performed in this great city of Dallas, the time has come to create other categories that do not conflict with one another.

Tejano is a category on it's own that has absolutely nothing to do with Tropical music, i.e. Salsa/Merengue, as is the same for Urban Latino (which is the universal genre name) given to all forms of Latino Hip Hop, Reggaeton, etc. The time has come to create separate categories that best reflect our massive latino music culture in Dallas.

Research has shown that 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation Latino consumers are those whom read and consume English based media and your weekly is a hot one in the Latino community--FYI. This is not to be confused with the massive immigration movement of 1st generation latinos that utilize Spanish media as their primary source of information and entertainment.
