Not Easy Being Green

How best to describe the good souls who are willing to even think about organic gardening when the temperature hits 100 degrees? Environmentally aware, perhaps. Devoted. Earth friendly. Or how about ker-ray-zee? It's hot. Hothothothot. In August, Mother Nature can go hump herself. Give us Dow Chemical, automatic sprinklers and a leaf blower to keep things green. Luckily for future generations, the folks at Texas Discovery Gardens care way, way more about the planet than we do. The gardens are hosting an EARTH-KIND Environmental Stewardship workshop Saturday, with tips on water-wise gardening, the benefits of trees, harvesting rainwater and growing roses. The workshop begins with garden walks at 9 a.m. Admission is free. The gardens are located at 3601 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Call 214-428-7476 or visit texasdiscoverygardens.org.
Sat., Aug. 18, 9 a.m.
