Art's Ready

Is Deep Ellum dead this week? I can never keep up. I blame some of that on Kettle Art. Yeah, you, Frank, Kirk and company. You go and have all these phenomenal art shows, getting everyone excited about the local scene. You have affordable art that doesn't shun the mediocre income of some 20- and 30-somethings who want to begin their own collection (as well as justify their required Art Appreciation classes). To top that off, your openings are hip scenester parties that haven't been overrun by plastic socialites who buy art to merely fill a space (usually not the one in their heads, either). But when you have downtime, we have downtime, descending into the abyss of our real lives, where we never feel as cool as we do when inside your four walls. We stay home and leave Deep Ellum to fend for itself. You just better be glad (or is that we'd better be glad?) we'll return soon for a one-night only Richard Ross exhibit 7 p.m. Saturday at Kettle Art, 2714 Elm St. Call 214-287-9070 or visit kettleart.com.
Sat., Aug. 25, 7 p.m.
