Celebrate the Jewish arts downtown

Oy vey! It's like Purim in August! The Jewish Community Center of Dallas hosts their 11th Annual Jewish Arts Fest Sunday at the Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. Themed "It's no secret how Jewish life is built!" the 12-ring party (with kosher nosh and enough simultaneous glitter to captivate even the most ADD member of the family) is a microcosm of Jewish identity, from laughter (Chicago's Second City presentation of Jewsical! The Musical ) to tears (a scholarly discussion of a student art exhibition on the death camps of Poland) to anxiety (a parent talk on how to raise resilient teens). Have the kids' faces painted and photographed or get your handwriting analyzed (instead of your psyche, for once)—after all, it's a party! Oh, and bring your credit cards—there will be several original items at the Art and Craft Exhibition you'll want to buy for Uncle Tevye and Aunt Golde. This year's fare includes paintings, glass, fiber creations, photography, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry and Judaica from around the world. Musical offerings wander from Project's classical/hip-hop fusion to karaoke to Israeli folk dancing at Dabke D'Dallas' Weekend Workshop. For more information, visit jccdallas.org.
