The House Harkonnen performs Weezer's Pinkerton, Vinegar and Syrup's Ween tribute

Friday, August 24, at Double Wide

Weezer's 1996 disc Pinkerton, which came on the heels of their hit debut, was much maligned. Critics held their noses, accusing the concept album (based on Madame Butterfly, of all things) of not just stinking of sophomore slump, but also of being one of the worst albums ever made. In the years that followed, however, for one reason or another, fans and critics alike began to rethink the work, and over time the rarest of things happened: We all changed our minds. Pinkerton is now regarded as one of the best records of the 1990s.

All the more fun, then, to take the legend and bend it through the prism of a local band. Arlington's House Harkonnen is interested in one thing: rock. Not emo, not dance-rock, not alt-rock...just the kind of rock that features the devil-horns-pumping riffitude that Cuomo weaves into his poppy oeuvre. Judging from their chugging original tunes, HH should nail Pinkerton perfectly.
