Everyone has an imaginary world lurking somewhere in the back (or front, or sides) of their brain. Artist Robert D. Cocke certainly does, but unlike most of the rest of us, he has the capability to pluck that world right out of his gray matter and give it color on the canvas via some oil paint, brushstrokes and a lifetime of experience. His landscapes and still life paintings represent a not-quite-realistic vision that sits well amongst imaginary friends, dreamt-of pastures and other could-bes and should-bes. Two years following his retirement from professor of art at Arizona State University at Tempe, Valley House Gallery & Sculpture Garden, 6616 Spring Valley Road, presents Cocke's South of Why, West of Because through September 29.
